Dulture weekly mix

At about the 5:25 part of this mix I feel like I should be in Akira speeding through a cyberpunk city with no care in the world.

I will admit you shouldn’t listen to this mix right away. In fact you should save it for tonight. At around the 7 minute mark, while you’re still thinking about speeding through a cyberpunk city, you’ll get the vibe you need to enjoy your Friday night.

At the end of the day, if you can’t speed through a cyberpunk city pretending you’re in Akira, then what is the point to all of this???

It’s crazy to think that it’s only February (how is it February already...) and this weekend might just very well be the biggest sports weekend of the entire year.

Between the Super Bowl and the beginning of the Winter Olympics, if you like sports, your couch awaits you.

Who are we kidding, I’m sure you’ve spent a ton of quality time with your couch lately...

When TF is winter over?

Part of the issue with winter (there’s many parts...) is if you wanted to dress less like a hobo, it’s hard man.

Between brushing against the damn car and getting that white grime on your jacket to walking through slush, it’s RIP to anything nice you’re trying to wear.

The world pays close attention to what they wear when they walk into the Summer Olympics but yo, I recently discovered that if you had no idea how to dress in the winter, all you gotta do is tune into the opening ceremony.

Check out what these countries are wearing - like a combination of sport, style, and most importantly, WARMTH.

CANADA - LULULEMON

We just look like we’re ready to shovel snow

USA - POLO RALPH LAUREN

That puffer jacket reminds me of the early 2000s Polo Sport stuff

MONGOLIA - GOYOL

They ain’t playing around in Mongolia

FRANCE - LE COQ SPORTIF

France’s uniforms for ANYTHING always look so chill

BRAZIL - MONCLER

I didn’t even know Brazil competed in the Winter games but they might just have the most bougey uniform in the world

And if you’re a Nike athlete, check out the utility box they send you complete with those dumbass Nike Mind shoes (I will eventually get a pair to confirm their dumbass-ness) and a pair of Nike Hyperice Hyperboots - which literally warm your feet up when you charge them...crazy.

So now stop complaining about being cold and go get you some Moncler to look like a REAL athlete lol.

Incoming: The New IT Girl

If KPop Demon Hunters taught us one thing, it’s that we really didn’t know how massive Kpop actually was.

Last year Kpop climbed to #4 behind Pop, Rock, and HipHop/RnB out the most streamed genres in the world. IN THE WORLD 🤯

Meanwhile Kpop accounts for 3.1% of the top 10,000 tracks globally, while English language songs make up 52%. And yet the genre is right up there with every other major genre - insane.

Of course all of this lead to groups like BTS and Blackpink becoming household names globally. If you haven’t heard of these groups before, you’ve definitely heard one of their songs or someone from their group on the radio.

And while it’s become pretty common to see Kpop idols repping brands around the world as ambassadors, it was only a matter of time until we got a Kpop idol to officially cross over into our culture.

Gotta give a moment to Lisa

She’s a member of Blackpink, broke out as a solo artist a couple years ago, and smashed YouTube music records with her debut solo song “LALISA”.

Why you should care: Honestly, you don’t have to at all but she’s repping brands that I know you know, so you are about to see her ALL OVER THE PLACE.

She’s guest designing for Kith

She’s becoming an LV OG (prob dating dude who’s father owns the brand)

She was just named Thailand’s tourism ambassador (she’s from Thailand so…duh)

And probably the one that gives her the culture longevity…

And then goes on to lead Nike Skim’s latest campaign.

Hate it or love it, besides Jordan brand, Skims is the ONLY co-brand Nike has EVER done. I’m not trying to compare the brand to Jordan at this point but yo, this ain’t some collab on IG that gets forgotten about the next day.

Remember how Justin Timberlake became JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE after leaving NSYNC - this that moment with Lisa now.

Yellow Brick Road FR FR

Dubai is one of those places where even if you’ve never been, you’ve heard so much about it that you feel like you have.

From the Bugatti cop cars, to Roger Federer playing tennis on top of one of the tallest hotels in the world, to the artificial islands shaped out like one big palm, there’s absolutely no place like Dubai in the world.

Every so often you hear a new unbelievable story happening in Dubai but then you think back and realize, it’s Dubai, it makes sense.

Dubai recently announced they’re creating the world’s first street made out of gold.

As part of the city’s plan to create a global hub for jewelry, Dubai is in the midst of building up the Dubai Gold District, THE tourist destination for anyone looking for gold or jewelry in the middle east, and most likely the rest of the world.

Somewhere here there will be a street made entirely out of gold

The exact measurements, location, etc etc has not been officially announced but best believe, just like every other crazy thing Dubai has been able to pull off, this will be all over the internet immediately.

And no, it probably won’t be a good idea to walk down this street in bare feet.

Digital Dončić

You might have heard of Astro World but have you heard of 77X World?

Probably not because it just came out last week. Unless you’re an obsessive Luka Dončić fan - in which case you probably have the thing in your Apple Wallet already.

This thing:

Yes, I signed up. No, I’m not an obsessive fan.

Don’t get me wrong, I like watching the guy play, but I was more interested in the fact that 77X is touted as the first “direct to fan” platform from a pro athlete.

Although I was intrigued by the fact that this is supposed to be an exclusive members only type of deal, I think I’d be more stoked if I was a huge fan of Luka.

So far they’ve sent a couple emails that talk about some “insider” type stuff, mainly this origin story about “lil luka” that really just feels like Lil’ Penny.

And then there’s the shop where if you become a member (see above QR code thing) then you get early access to any Luka merch that drops. It was all sold out but not like I’m paying $84 for a t-shirt from a basketball player’s merch line anyway.

Supposedly next week at NBA All-Star Weekend Luka will have some sort of game going on where you use the QR code thing in your Apple Wallet to participate and get in the game.

It’s all a cool concept…if you’re a ride or die for the athlete. If not then I just raise my eyebrow like, why is this guy creating and selling his own merch line when he makes $55M a year?

You too can go on 77x.world and sign up to become a member of this NFT-like universe.
