Dulture weekly mix
I don’t like roller coasters but if I did I feel like this is exactly what it would be like to be on one as you listen to this week’s mix.
Going out for wings simply doesn’t hit like it used to.
In the early 2000’s wing spots began to pop up all over the place advertising 100+ flavours. And we all went to them because, how tf does a restaurant have over 100+ flavours of wings?
Then you’d go and realize, it’s just 3-4 variations of the same flavour multiplied by 20. Not quite sure if the math works there but you get the idea. Dry cajun, wet cajun, spicy cajun, bbq cajun, cajun ranch, cajun cajun - you quickly learned that that it was all basically the same thing.
Except for the suicide wings.
I remember there was this one spot a group of us went to when we were either late teens or early 20’s - so basically idiots - and we decided suicide wings can’t be that spicy. And so a few of ordered them and it easily turned out to be the most painful eating experience of my life.
You ever eat something so spicy you can’t feel your lips - like, literally can’t feel them so you don’t even know if the cup is at your mouth or not?
That was the only time in my life where I saw sweat form out of nowhere on someone’s forehead. It felt like I was watching a National Geographic special in slow motion as the sweat bead formed from eating the death wing.
Wing’s aren’t the same these days. HOWEVER - that hasn’t deterred Sean Evans from celebrating 10 years of Hot Ones, the YouTube show where celebrity guests eat progressively spicier wings as he interviews them.
Through the show’s tenure, Sean has consumed more than 3000 wings over the span of 360+ episodes.
Some facts of the show:
Sean and the guests actually eat the wings, although he’s said there is a spit bucket for guests if they needed it.
The black backdrop was originally used because they just didn’t have the budget to do anything better.
Gordon Ramsey’s first episode is the most viewed episode of Hot Ones of all time - and it’s worth the watch with all his F-bombs
Check out Lisa from Blackpink’s episode aired last week. She’s one of those superstars that doesn’t really know she’s a superstar, or at least that’s how it comes off as. I don’t know, maybe she just has amazing PR and media people on her team 🤷
You’ll get what I mean when they offer to give her the hot sauce she likes.
Neighborhood Nip Coming Back
I need to tell you a bit about Nipsey Hussle, especially for my non-hip hop readers.
It was 2018 and Victory Lap had just come out. I had it on repeat and could not get enough of it, so much so that I had gone down a rabbit hole for days on Nipsey Hussle, from his businesses to where he grew up, to just that motivational mindset I’m sure we all look to mimic from inspirational people.
I had heard his music before but his moment was officially here - the world was learning about how much of an entrepreneur he was, his innovative mindset, and his ability to break borders between disparate worlds - especially with him being from Compton.
Just ask Garyvee…
The world got Nipsey for just over a year during what was clearly becoming a meteoric rise to true stardom, until he was fatally shot right in front of his store in Compton over some gang nonsense.
I thought Victory Lap was the last of what we’d get from Nipsey as his brother Blacc Sam kept everything Nipsey related closed in within their family, knowing Nipsey only wanted projects to see the light of day that he had be tied to. Essentially he didn’t want anything he recorded to be given to anyone just for the sake of it.
Last week Blacc Sam did a mini press run as he opened Marathon Burger, the flagship burger shop under the Marathon banner, the brand him and his brother Nipsey original created, coining the term ‘the marathon continues’.

Alongside the opening of Marathon burger Blacc Sam alluded to a new Nipsey Hussle album coming out this summer. If you’re a fan of hiphop, and you’re tired of hearing about Drake and Kendrick Lamar, you can finally rejoice.
Actually if you haven’t heard it yet, you should check out Alchemist’s lastest project with Larry June and 2 Chainz - it’s so good.
Come On Down 10,000 Times!
If you experienced boredom during summer holidays when you were a kid, I’m almost certain we have at least one thing in common.
We all watched The Price Is Right
Every morning at 11AM, showcase showdown taking place roughly around 11:45, and the Pillsbury Pizza Pop went in the microwave juuuuuust as the second showcase was shown. (What? I was so bored that I had a routine to keep me sane during the summer)
At this point it really doesn’t matter how old you are, you’ve seen The Price Is Right in some shape or form - whether through the classic Bob Barker or Drew Carey, who took over for Bob in 2007…which is crazy to think that Drew has been hosting the show for almost 20 years now. Wtf does the time go man??

Welp - I don’t know if you caught it but the 10,000th episode aired a couple weeks back. And it was only fitting that one of the contestants actually won $100,000, breaking down in tears on stage in front of Drew Carey.

Since the show’s debut, its hosted 75,000 contestants and given away over $350M in cash and prizes.
And lord knows how many times Plinko has been played but can we all agree that is the best game on the show? That or the game where they have to yell, “LADIES, DO I HAVE AT LEAST ONE NUMBER RIGHT???” Hoooooonk
There’s been so many classic clips of people on this show…

Like so so many…

I’m sure you have your own but this one takes the cake on my end…

So Real You Can Taste It
You ever eat something while you’re watching a food show and the food looks so good that you pretend what you’re actually eating is the food you’re watching? I used to do this with salt crackers when I was a kid.
It sounds like I may not need the salt crackers in the near future. Researchers at Ohio State University have come up with a device that gives you the flavour of stuff through hydrogels that can be remotely controlled for flavour.

This device is connected to another gadget that measures the flavour in food and then sends this profile to the device to administer a certain amount of flavour gel
e-Taste, as the device is called, samples food and then recreates the flavour to then administer in someone’s mouth in the form of a gel. So far the team of researchers have been able to successfully recreate flavours like cake, lemonade, fried eggs, and coffee.
But they haven’t been able to crack the code on spicy or fattiness flavours. From the study they ran with people, 87% of the time study participants could figure out what the flavour was being pumped into their mouth.
So now that your imagination is running wild, what are we wanting to taste through this chemically corrected gel stuff?
