If you’ve been following along with the weekly mixes then you know this week’s mix is one of the party streams I’ve mentioned in the past. Right now the streams are a hidden gem - one of those things where only a few people have heard of them, like your own little secret.

One day they won’t be a secret anymore and we’ll all be sad that we can’t exclusively enjoy them. Kinda like the time when The Weeknd released only 4 tracks on YouTube and no one knew who he was except for me.

Did Marge Really Die?

The internet can be a weird place sometimes.  

If you try hard enough, it’s a weird place ALL the time.  

And if you try extra hard, older news becomes new news - which is exactly what happened this week.

I guess technically if you don’t keep up with The Simpsons you’d never know anyway...and btw they’re on season 36 for those of you diehard fans who remember all the quotes from like season 3 to season 8.

Marge died.

But like, it wasn’t really the point of the episode?  This didn’t stop the headline creators of the internet…

If anything, the season finale of The Simpsons is another stab at telling a future story about what Bart and Lisa’s life would be like in the future as adults.  

Odd that they didn’t include Maggie in this flash forward episode though…

The idea of the episode is that Marge is gone and Bart and Lisa are all grown up but have drifted apart as siblings - the idea of the episode isn’t that Marge dies.  

👆️ This is what sparked internet outrage over the episode this week though, even though it originally aired in May.

I remember when it was a legit big deal with Ned’s wife Maude died.  In this case, other than advancing the flash forward nature of the story, Marge’s death was not a focal point to the episode at all. 

Also, for a season finale, it definitely felt like a regular episode of The Simpsons.  

Nothing will beat Mr Burns being shot and having to wait alllllll summer to find out what actually happened. 

Not so Fresh Prince

There was a time when Will Smith had one of the craziest runs as the quintessential puzzle piece of the culture.  

That time was 1995-1999.

Dude was on fire every summer at the box office… 

• Bad Boys (1995) 

• Independence Day (1996) 

• Men in Black (1997) 

• Enemy of the State (1998) 

• Wild Wild West (1999) 

And he had his album, Big Willie Style in 1997 that we legitimately bounced to.  All I gotta say is Welcome to Miami or Gettin’ Jiggy With It and I know you’ve got it in your head now. 

But that was the late 90’s when Will was the epitome of cool.  The Fresh Prince turned into this mature movie star, that still had his Fresh Prince edge in him. These days, I dunno…

Did you know he released an album in March? 

Neither did I - reviews tell me all I need to know.  Although there’s a track with Russ and Jaden on it that actually bumps. 

I actually highly recommend Jaden’s 2019 ERYS album, it’s different, but in a refreshing way. 

Unlike:

Girls Girls Girls. 

Looking back on Will Smith’s career, being 56 now, why is he still trying to make summertime anthems that feel so awkward? 

I’d prefer if he starred in another tear jerker drama or a sequel to Bright instead of a mid-life crisis anthem about women 30 yrs younger than him…oh wait they cancelled it because of…

Facebook: The Sequel

Aside from WeWork and Adam Neumann, I don’t know if there’s any other startup stories out there that I’d look forward to a sequel more than Facebook’s. 

The Social Network was an amazing film.  From Aaron Sorkin’s writing to the vibe David Fincher created alongside Trent Reznor’s soundtrack - the film is a piece of cultural history for the world. 

It’s been 15 years since the film came out and obviously a lot has happened with Facebook since, most notably the company is no longer called Facebook.  

From multiple congressional hearings on teen mental health to anti-competitive practices, to Zuck’s foray into being the cool billionaire who does BJJ, there’s a lot one could follow up on with a sequel. 

Aaron Sorkin is taking on the job again to write and this time also direct the sequel.  

This time around the focus will heavily be on the Wall Street Journal’s investigation, The Facebook Files, which dove deep into all the societal harms Facebook has caused over the years. 

So this is gonna be a good movie.  

The question I have is which Zuck are we going to get??
