Kid Poker and Bricks of Cash

Trust me, I didn't expect to end this edition the way I did either

Around ‘05/’06 I became obsessed with poker. I remember playing my first cash game with nickels in a friend’s backyard and winning a few dollars after getting extremely lucky on a few flushes that should have never happened. At the time I thought I could feel it, as if I knew what card was coming next…I obviously didn’t know what I was doing.

When I used to run marathons (lowkey flex) I would spend the following day resting my knees while sitting at a poker table at the casino. They say it’s best to stay off your feet the following day after a marathon so what better way to rest than to fold hand after hand for 10 hours straight, right?

Then I became obsessed with High Stakes Poker aka this show:

If you don’t appreciate poker then you will at least appreciate the fact that the winnings in most pots on the show would allow you to buy a new house or several cars.

More recently I stumbled upon this fun simulator to test my poker IQ. It’s been a while since I’ve played poker for real, I guess the results show? *sudden urge to gamble*

If next week’s issue of Dulture has casino-laden topics in it you’ll know why!

14 poker IQ pts away from Daniel Negreanu, no clue what that means

This week's issue is a 4 minute read:

 💰️ The $1M Bitcoin

👟 Air Max Day

🪥 The most useful Japanese souvenir

Who is this guy and does he really matter?

Mr. $1M Bitcoin (Balaji Srinivasan)

You’ve probably heard of the turmoil surrounding banks worldwide and the fear people have of their money simply disappearing. If you’re Canadian you probably don’t have much to worry about since you basically only have like 5 options to pick from, how could you possibly lose your money?

Meanwhile, if you’re in the U.S. the dominos look like they’re ready to fall. But as people start to wonder what is going on with the banks, Balaji Srinivasan has been flooding Twitter with graphs, charts, pictures, videos, YOU NAME IT with why you should move your money into Bitcoin. More so, he’s made a $1M bet that Bitcoin will hit $1M in 90 days - or something like 84 days by the time you read this.

Why you might care is because Balalji was right about Covid and a few other predictions (according to Twitter). He’s also been in the trenches of cryptocurrencies, being early on Bitcoin and the ex-CTO of Coinbase. That said, dude has been flooding Twitter since the Silicon Valley Bank run. If you pay attention to his tweets, it almost looks like he wakes up and immediately spews charts and graphs on why you should move your money to Bitcoin.

Will he be right about more banks failing in the coming months? Maybe, maybe not. Will he right about Bitcoin rising to $1M in 90 days? Maybe, maybe not.

I might’ve moved some money into Bitcoin just in case though.

The most wonderful time of the year

AI’s take on Air Max Day - yeah I don’t know either

There’s a few times of the year where I watch the calendar like a hawk - NBA playoffs, the next season of Billions, and AIR MAX DAY. And no, I don’t need to watch the calendar for my wife’s birthday or our anniversary, I have a notification that lets me know (that notification being my wife 🙃 kidding!!)

The Nike Air Max 1 was released on March 26th 1987 and so a few years ago Nike decided to dub March 26th as Air Max day. Every year on and around March 26th, Nike releases a new Air Max shoe and a few limited edition shoes.

Introducing the Nike Air Max Pulse

You getting these?

This year’s shoe takes elements from all kinds of shoes, as Nike typically does. Sometimes I’m a huge fan of the elements they’ve pulled together and sometimes it’s just meh. If you have the Air Max 270’s then you can see a bit of the bubble and the lower sole in there. I do like that the bubble doesn’t stick out creating a second heel like the trend has been in the past. However I’m going to to have to see these in person to give my official thumbs up or down.

Also Nike is re-releasing the Air Max 1 model that they they originally produced in the 80’s where the air bubble is a bit longer than what you would get with current Air Max 1 models. I know, I know, you don’t care - let me geek out for a minute!

If you don’t own a pair of Air Max 1’s and want to start, these are the ones to get

I love shoes.

The brushing experience of a lifetime

So when I was out in Japan a friend of mine told me about this toothbrush that I had to get. I was like, yeah whatever buddy, it’s just a stupid toothbrush. He said NO, THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. So we went to Yodabashi Camera and looked at toothbrushes, as one does in the Best Buy of Japan.

The above translates to THE BEST TOOTHBRUSH OF YOUR LIFE (probably)

I ended up buying one and frankly speaking, I didn’t know one could be so impressed by a toothbrush! I mean look at me, I’m writing a newsletter about interesting things and a TOOTHBRUSH IS A TOPIC.

Suffice to say, I have a grocery list ready to go the next time I find myself in Japan and a lifetime supply of these toothbrushes is on that list.

And if you don’t believe me look at the (translated) reviews for this thing!

PRECISELY

Dentists know the move!

I know right??

…that’s what she said.

“I am no longer satisfied with other toothbrushes.”
