Is Anyone Happier than Lavar Ball?

Dulture weekly mix
This week’s mix makes you want to pick up, get in your car, and just go on a late night drive. You know when the radio just plays mixes at night for extended periods of time and you wonder why they save the best mixes for really late at night - that’s this mix…except you get it bright and early.
Yesterday was my dad’s birthday. He would’ve been 88 years old.
Lucky number 88 for all my Asians.
We go through life creating so many memories of our parents - while we’re younger, young, and then not so young anymore (depending on who’s judging). And you really never know which ones will stick with you til the end, and which ones will fade into late night TV static.
That is, until your parents pass away.
When my dad passed, my mind immediately went back to the summer in 1995 or some semblance of the mid 90’s. All the way back to Tuesday and Thursday evenings when he would drive me to soccer practice and games, being the league convenor, our assistant coach, and driving the other Joe on our team home every week.

My dad was already in his late 40’s when I was born but you would have never known his age from his energy and youthfulness. Although his hair began to go grey in his 30s and he never bothered to dye it.
When he passed, a couple days later he visited me in a dream, the Joe from 1995. He was glowing, young, and full of energy, and the happiest he had been in a really long time. That’s all I needed.
This week Lavar Ball sat down with Slam Magazine for an exclusive interview after having his foot amputated. For those of you who don’t know who Lavar Ball is, he’s the father who everyone thought was crazy with a Facebook show years ago as his three sons were up and coming prospects in the NBA. Lonzo and Melo made it to the league and Gelo is a decent rapper now after playing pro ball overseas.
In the interview Lavar talks about almost having to “shut it down”, meaning his life, after letting his diabetes go untreated for so long. He then goes on to talk about how much his 3 sons mean to his longevity and remaining happy in life.
To have a father believe in his sons as much as Lavar did, man….

¾ of Blackpink in Your Area
I can understand if you still haven’t heard of BLACKPINK. Actually, I can’t.
Whether you like K-Pop or not, Apa tapa te, Apa tapa te (sp?), is completely unavoidable at this point. And now it’s stuck in your head, sorry.

Meanwhile, the new addition to White Lotus, Lisa, just dropped her debut solo album that was all over the top rankings on the Billboard charts.

And then you have Jennie who said, hold my beer…

But if you know who Blackpink is, you know there’s a 4th member.
So I asked the internet…

And the internet basically told me to STFU (lol). Also Jisoo has apparently been filming K-dramas and movies so she hasn’t had time to do an album. Although she did recently put out a 4 song EP - but the internet blasted me for that too…

So I’ll stop disrespecting Jisoo and let you know that she has an album out too…Billboard really liked it, saying “even the worst song on the album (Tears) is still super strong”.
Do with this information as you will.
(An EP is still not an album…)
Making Humans Aquatic (not Aqua-Man)
Why is it that we know so much more about what’s in space than we do in the bottom of the ocean? While the ocean covers over 70% of the earth, estimates range from 5-20% of it has actually been discovered.
What the heck as at the bottom of the ocean?
A startup out of the UK is trying to figure this out by creating the equivalent of an underwater trailer park. Deep, as its so aptly named, is a company building gigantic pods out of steel that they anticipate people can live in, under water, by 2027.'

Inside the Sentinel…for the rest of your life
The Sentinel is Deep’s flagship “habitat” that is modular in construction meaning multiple Sentinels can attach to each other essentially creating an underwater habitat for humans. Picture the hamster tubes that connect to each other.

Exactly. What if there’s a leak. Experts at Deep said there are 4 ways to safely evacuate - what they are, I don’t know. But there’s 4.
The goal for Deep is to get humans down into the ocean without getting wet and without having to learn how to scuba dive. I think it’s a very interesting idea and definitely a nice change of pace to the constant conversation about going to Mars (can we go already??).
Also, this would obviously make a great MrBeast video.

Jensen Huang Needs to Buy a GM Now
This week was NVIDIA’s GTC conference aka the Mecca of AI. Every year people flock to California to hear the CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, talk to an audience of thousands about what NVIDIA’s going to do next with their GPU’s - the chips that power that AI thing you might’ve heard of.

Why didn’t they use a picture of a Chevy Malibu instead?
Back in 2020 NVIDIA announced a partnership with Mercedes Benz to turn their fleet of cars into self-driving machines. This week NVIDIA announced a partnership with GM to turn their fleet of cars into self-driving machines.
According to Huang, NVIDIA plans on powering AI within GM for their cars, for their factories, and for their corporate offices.
According to Elon Musk, we’ll have fully self driving cars in California and Texas by 2026 and a broader deployment of autonomous vehicles in 2027-2028. Elon also said we’d have a billion robots walking around in 10 years.
So there’s that.
