You're not as dirty as you think
We all remember our first drink…how awful it tasted! It was a miserable choice, because well, how do you know what’s actually a good alcohol when you’re young and trying to be cool? I remember for me it was a WARM can of Labatt Blue. It was as if the can had been left in someone’s pocket for a week. How’s that for a description?
It was at that point that I decided beer wasn’t for me. The next drink I had was this pre-mixed margarita that tasted like yellow Gatorade - THAT was for me, the fruity stuff! Until the headaches the next day. A short while later I discovered beer doesn’t taste too bad if it’s actually cold - proving that beer commercials are perfect depictions of reality after all!
Speaking of beer, you ever wonder what they’re actually drinking in TV shows and movies when they’re supposed to be drinking a “beer”? In the classic film “Dazed and Confused” the majority of the cast who were of age were actually drinking real beer throughout the film…which explains A LOT about the film.
Meanwhile in “Cheers”, (you know, the show you saw everywhere but probably never watched) they drank non-alcoholic warm flat beer with salt poured in it. Imagine being an actor having to pretend you’re at a bar drinking a refreshing beer when it’s really warm, flat, salty non-alcoholic beer. I guess if you’re a good enough actor no one would ever know the difference!

Hulkamania running wild in Japan
This week I learned that Hulk Hogan wrestled in Japan for a good 5 years in the 80’s. And he actually really wrestled - not the typical punch punch walk around the ring thing that he’s known to do. AKA this. The Japanese love their wrestling because their wrestlers tend to actually perform real skill so when Hogan went to Japan his style immediately had to adapt and he actually had perform real wrestling moves.
It’s always interesting to see how the Japanese take to a North American star. In Hogan’s case, he became one of the top wrestlers for New Japan Pro Wrestling, winning their heavyweight belt and being dubbed “Ichiban”, which translates to “The One”.
However, as much as the Japanese could be relatively calmer about watching wrestling compared to us North American hillbilly’s, when Hogan beat their beloved hero Antonio Inoki, he had to change hotels five times because of all the death threats he received. So much for being a quiet, polite society.
Oh, and Hogan got married to his long time wife, Linda in Japan (whom he later divorced) but his original reason for staying so long in Japan was because of a Japanese woman he had met when he first went out in there in 1980 - so there’s that as well.
Imagine seeing Andre the Giant in Tokyo in the 80’s…
Should you really shower everyday?
As we start to embrace the sun and the warmer days, you’ll soon be reminded of how sweaty you can get and subsequently all the showers you’ll be taking over the next three months…sometimes twice a day. But it’s not all soap suds and shower songs for us according to Dr. Benjamin Barankin, a dermatologist and founder of the Toronto Dermatology Clinic.
Unless you’re physically active daily or a sweaty oily teenager, you probably don’t need to shower everyday, according to Dr. Barankin. This is mainly because your skin doesn’t need a scrubbing daily and frankly, it may cause more harm than good, resulting in itchier and dryer skin. I mean, if you stayed home all day in your sweatpants did you really get dirty to begin with?
The amount of showers you need is really up to you - basically be an adult and figure out when you’re dirty and smelly and action that accordingly.
That all said, there actually is a proper way to shower, according to Dr. Renita Ahluwalia, a dermatologist and co-founder of the Canadian Dermatology Centre in Toronto. According to Dr. Ahluwalia, you should be taking quicker showers to avoid scrubbing the skin too much and over exfoliating. Also moisturizing right after showering helps if you tend to have dry, itchy, irritated skin. My wife’s reading this right now and saying I told you so! You don’t want to know how long her skincare routine is after she showers. 😅
SUPREMEly disappointing
If there was ever a brand who pioneered line ups for a clothing drop, it was Supreme. The brand went from an underground-ish skate brand in the 90’s to a supremely (pun intended) sought after clothing brand, with each drop selling out within the day and being resold for insane prices. Ever pay hundreds of dollars for a t-shirt? Well if you bought something resale from Supreme then you definitely did.
In 2020 Supreme was purchased by a massive apparel company called VF, which also owns brands like Vans and Timberland - brands that aren’t exclusive and can be found anywhere - basically the opposite of what Supreme had become.

I remember walking around in a mall in Hong Kong earlier this year and seeing Supreme on shelves in a regular clothing store. Normally you’d only find the brand in those exclusive hypebeast stores with the shoes all wrapped up in saran wrap and young kids scoffing at you behind the counter because you aren’t wearing Stone Island, Travis Scott AJ1’s, or Fear of God. This past week Surpreme reported its yearly earnings, which saw drops of almost $20M, which sounds so crazy given at one point Supreme could put its logo on anything and it would sell out.
No seriously, they put their logo on everything and people buy it
Given Supreme’s dismal 2020 year, it begs the question, have hypebeasts finally moved on to other brands? Is the world finally fed up with box logo t-shirts that most likely cost $2 to make and are being sold for 100x. I myself have never purchased anything from Supreme but if you’re telling me I can walk into a store and purchase something at retail price in the future, maybe I’ll finally get me a Supreme crowbar like this fine young lad below.
